New Mexico Historic Preservation Division Seeks Survey Responses

May 7th, 2021

SANTA FE – Historic preservation is vital for all New Mexicans. It protects our connection to the past and teaches us about our roots. It provides a sense of place and character for our communities. It drives economic development and tourism. And it shapes our present and can be used to define the future in a way that is most beneficial for all New Mexicans.

From May 10 to June 10, the New Mexico Historic Preservation Division (NMHPD), a division of the New Mexico Department of Cultural Affairs, will conduct an online survey seeking opinions from state residents about the future of historic preservation in relation to diversity, environmental sustainability, and economic benefits, as well as the type of work the Division should prioritize. Survey responses will be used to help plan a roadmap for historic preservation activities across New Mexico over the next 10 years. To access the survey, click here or visit http://nmhistoricpreservation.org/programs/state-plan.html.

“This is our opportunity to reach out and understand how we might be able to better serve the preservation needs for New Mexicans,” said Pappas, State Historic Preservation Officer. “By taking the survey, you’ll be helping us plan for the next 10 years. It’ll only take a few minutes, but your thoughts will be invaluable in shaping the next generation of preservation programming.”

NMHPD manages, oversees, and coordinates all historic preservation activities across the state. The division educates the public about historic preservation and protects thousands of historic and archaeological sites in New Mexico. If you have ever visited an archaeological site, stopped on the side of the road to read a historic marker, or appreciated a well-maintained historic building in your community, you have likely engaged with the work of the NMHPD.
